Working from home...

How do people do this full time?

I am working from home (at the dining room table) this morning whilst Anna has got a doctors appointment.

It is quite weird sitting in your dining room wearing your suit and tie. Someone recommended wearing your work shoes to try and make it feel like you are at work. It almost works except for the following:

  • At work I have boiling water on tap for hot drinks
  • At work there are not two screaming children (one with chicken pox) - Actually scrap that one - There are many screaming kids - They have the job title 'Project Manager'
  • I'm used to two 20" monitors at work. My work laptop is only 13"
  • The view is better at home. aka more distracting
  • If I have a poo at work - Work are paying for it both in time and TP.
I'm looking forward to Anna to get back and I can go to our Nottingham office for the afternoon for some peace and quiet.

BOGOF

I was walking round my local supermarket the other day and couldn't help but notice the amount of 'special offers' that were on junk-food.

Why are there comparatively few offers on non-processed meat and vegetables?

I would love to see a Buy One Get One Free on broccoli or leeks!

Grrrr!

Yankee drinks.

A friend of mine, Matt (youngglory), who incidentally has got a fantastic blog, sent me a link - It is a list of drinks that are sold in America.

It was a real eye-opener!

The one that really got me was the 'Antioxidant Water' - 33g of Sugar in one bottle!

Office insulation

I'd love to know what our office is insulated with.

It is 30°C in here and I'm hotter than a pig in a greenhouse on the equator wearing a wetsuit eating chillies whilst being burned by local children with magnifying glasses!

(this may be an exaggeration)

The Daily Fail

Saw an excellent article on the Daily Fail today.

It is talking about how our consumption of 'diet' foods has gone up and so has the price.

What caught my attention was the picture (which may have been edited by the time any of you 3 people read this.) and the caption.

Beer lovers - Slimfast is now catering for you!!

Sugar = Evil Part 2

There is a fantastic video from Underground Wellness about just how bad sugar is and how it is helping (processed foods) cause the obesity epidemic.

Anyway watch this video - It is fantastic

Shameless plug for the 'diet' I am on

I have been on this diet for 14 weeks now and have lost 38lbs and over 4 inches from my waist.

Needless to say; I think that this diet is fantastic.

And...

Amazon have got the books at HALF PRICE

That one person..

You know the one I mean!

You have just done something to the best of your ability, other people have said "well done!" and you are feeling on a bit of a high but then...

Someone 'kipper slaps' you right back down to earth.

I'm sure they don't mean to do it but it kinda' sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Usually this person will be quite close to you which makes it all the harder. I think the only way to deal with it is to smile and say "I'll do better next time"

Lucid Lynx and mounting Windows shares using cifs

By default in Lucid it would seem that it is impossible to mount a windows share using the mount.cifs command

This is because the 'set uid bit' is not set.

It can be sorted by the following commands

sudo chmod +s `which mount.cifs`
sudo chmod +s `which umount.cifs`

Fish and Leeks - New Recipe

Ingredients:

3 Leeks
Medium Cauliflower
Salmon
Cod (or any other white fish)
Cooked and Peeled King Prawns

For the sauce:
1 Medium pot of double cream
2 tbsp Full Fat Phili
2 Cloves of garlic - Mashed with half a tsp of salt
Ground black pepper

Method:
Steam the cod and salmon until cooked to your liking
Steam the Cauliflower
Fry the leeks in butter

Sauce:
Add the Cream, Phili, Garlic and pepper into a saucepan and cook for about 3 minutes
Add the prawns and simmer for another 2-3 minutes (until the prawns have heated through)
If the sauce is not thick enough - Mix a little cornflower into a couple of teaspoons of cold water and mix into a paste. Add the paste into the still simmering sauce and it will thicken.

Pour the sauce over the Fish and Veg and enjoy as it is or Grate some cheese over it and grill!

Bank holiday weekends

Why does the weather always seem to know when it is bank holiday? We have just had a positively gorgeous week with temperatures just shy of 20 degrees C (over at some points) but now look at it! my central heating actually came on today!

We had better get a BBQ summer this year!
